Performance Management
We work with clients to develop performance management programs that turn a sometimes difficult task into an opportunity for partnership and working towards common goals. Our programs look at objectives and how they are achieved, but also focus on business behaviours and competencies that are the basis for effectiveness on the job. We have worked closely with organizations who are team focused, and helped define what top team performance is within the organization, how to measure it and how to link it to compensation.
Looking At Competencies
All jobs require that the employee has a set of competencies that enable him/her to perform well. Competencies are the business behaviours that enable employees to use their technical skills to best effect. Competencies include leadership, critical thinking, customer orientation, teamwork, coaching, valuing others, etc., and are the basis for doing the job well.
Setting And Assessing Objectives
Setting objectives is a process that requires close attention to assure that employees and managers understand each other and are clear on their mutual goals. Well designed objectives are a basis for unambiguous assessment that promotes fairness and is fact-based.
Systems And Process
Performance management and assessment is a process with specific steps. We can recommend systems ranging from simple paper forms to web-based systems that allow employees and managers to interact and monitor progress during the year. We work with clients to develop an approach that fits each organization.
Easing The Pain
Almost all companies do performance assessments – or so they say. For many, a substantial portion of the management population would prefer 90 minutes with a periodontist. There are ways to ease the pain, and make the experience less stressful for everyone. See our 13 point article on performance assessment.
